Vic: Victoria posts biggest winter crop harvest on record

MELBOURNE, Feb 17 AAP - Victoria had posted its biggest winter crop harvest on record
this year, state Agriculture Minister Bob Cameron said today.

Mr Cameron said he welcomed the strong turnaround in fortunes for Victorian grain farmers
after they were hit hard by the drought last season.

He said the harvest was more than 6.2 million tonnes compared with the previous record
of 5.9 million tonnes set in 2000-01 and the record low of 1.8 million tonnes last season.

"The biggest crops harvested in Victoria were wheat, barley and canola," he said.

"It is important to remember that this has been achieved while some farmers have continued
to be affected by low rainfall or other adverse weather conditions including frost and
hail."
