NSW: Rare tiger cubs displayed at Taronga Zoo

Three tiger cubs -- still wobbly on their legs -- have been introduced to the public
at their home at Sydney's Taronga Zoo.

Taronga Zoo Sumatran tiger Assiqua and her eight-week-old cubs -- two males and one
female -- made their public debut today.

The cubs have white undersides, but already their distinctive orange stripes are evident.

And markings on their foreheads make up the Chinese symbol for King.

New South Wales Environment Minister BOB DEBUS says 10 years ago, there were an estimated
1,000 Sumatran Tigers in the wild.

But now, of the 500 still alive, 400 are in national parks and two game reserves.
