Vic: Motorola wins bid to computerise emergency services
Communications company Motorola has been named the successful bidder to fit computers
into Victoria's emergency services vehicles.
Victorian Police Minister ANDRE HAERMEYER says the $100 million project will initially
see lap-top computers in 1,100 police cars and 135 ambulance vehicles in Melbourne.
Mr HAERMEYER says this will enable emergency workers to access information while on location.
But the state opposition's dismissed the project as too late in coming and too city-based.
Opposition technology spokesman VICTOR PERTON says the former KENNETT government planned
a similar upgrade three years, but it's taken the BRACKS government two years to implement.
